Biography

Feroza Begum was a renowned Bangladeshi singer best known for performing Nazrul Sangeet, the songs written and composed by Kazi Nazrul Islam. She was born on 28 July 1930 in Faridpur, now in Bangladesh. From a very young age, she developed a deep interest in music and began learning and performing songs early in her life.

Feroza Begum started singing Nazrul-geeti in her childhood and soon became known for her powerful and expressive voice. Her dedication to the music of Kazi Nazrul Islam helped her become one of the most respected singers of this genre. Through her performances and recordings, she played an important role in spreading Nazrul Sangeet in Bangladesh and India.

During her long musical career, Feroza Begum recorded hundreds of songs, many of which became very popular. She performed on radio, television, and at many cultural programs, gaining admiration from music lovers. Her singing style was appreciated for its emotional depth and clear expression of lyrics.

For her great contribution to music, she received many honors, including the Independence Day Award, one of the highest civilian awards in Bangladesh. She passed away on 9 September 2014, but her songs continue to inspire lovers of Nazrul-geeti and remain an important part of South Asian musical heritage.
