Deepak Maharaj

Deepak Maharaj is the professional name of Deepak M. Sharma, the elder son of the respected artist Maharaj Mohanlal Hariram Sharma. Born into a family deeply rooted in artistic values, he was formally declared his father's successor, entrusted with carrying forward the family’s cultural and creative legacy. By mutual understanding within the family, Deepak Maharaj assumed responsibility for preserving and expanding the tradition, while his younger brother Manu, based in Guangzhou, China, pursued business interests.

Deepak Maharaj’s artistic journey reflects how inherited knowledge, when nurtured with dedication, can evolve and reach a global audience. Under his stewardship, the traditional art form has travelled widely, gaining renewed recognition and fresh relevance in contemporary cultural spaces. His mother, Nirmala Guryani, has been a constant source of strength and inspiration, shaping a family environment grounded in respect, humility, and human values. This foundation has played a significant role in Deepak Maharaj’s personal and professional outlook.

In 1992, Deepak Maharaj married Durga, later named Vandana, daughter of Dr. Chuharram T. Sharma and the late Mrs. Maya Devi. Vandana’s support, understanding, and personal strengths have been integral to his artistic growth and career. As a devoted partner and pillar of strength, she has contributed meaningfully to both his personal life and professional journey.

The couple has two daughters, Disha and Simran, whom Deepak Maharaj regards as a source of inspiration, often expressing that his children bring life and continuity to his art. Rooted in family values and guided by tradition, Deepak Maharaj continues to honor his lineage while shaping its future with commitment and vision.
