Deepa Shakthi

Deepa Shakthi’s artistic practice reflects a blend of Carnatic foundations and the multicultural sound environment in which she grew up. Her repertoire includes Indian classical music, semi-classical compositions, and collaborations that draw from world music and contemporary forms. This versatility has shaped her identity as a vocalist comfortable performing in traditional concert settings as well as cross-genre environments.

Her career gained momentum through regular work as a session musician in commercial recordings and live performances. She has collaborated with leading UK-based artists, including pioneering producer and Bhangra innovator Kuljit Bhamra, a partnership that continued through multiple projects both on stage and in studio setups. Deepa’s performance history extends across the United Kingdom and, more recently, international venues, demonstrating her ability to connect diverse audiences with Indian musical traditions.

A notable point in her career came in 1996 when she contributed to the project Chants of India, created by George Harrison of The Beatles in collaboration with sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar. Participating in such a landmark recording introduced her voice to an important chapter in global Indian classical music outreach.
