Debjit Patitundi

Debjit Patitundi represents a new wave of tabla artists who blend strong traditional knowledge with an exploratory musical outlook. His grounding in Hindustani classical music began early, with structured learning from his father and continued guidance under Pandit Shankha Chatterjee. The decade-long tutelage provided a robust foundation in the grammar of tabla performance, including clarity of stroke work, command of laykari, and an attentive approach to accompaniment. Recognition at a young age—notably his All India Radio 2009 Tabla competition success and later his ‘A’ grade accreditation—affirmed his growing stature.

Debjit has steadily expanded his presence on major platforms in India and abroad. His international experience includes representing India in Spain as part of a cultural exchange initiative, as well as a notable London debut in 2018. He has appeared frequently on national media, contributing performances that highlight the vitality of percussion within classical music concert formats.

Continuing his development, Debjit now receives advanced mentorship from Pandit Subhankar Banerjee, whose eclectic musical sensibilities influence his evolving repertoire and collaborative approach. In 2023, he performed twice at the Darbar Festival—first in a trio with sitarist Ayan Sengupta and sarod player Pratik Shrivastava, and later with sarangi artist Sarwar Hussain Khan.
