Biography
Chinmaya Dunster (1954–1 March 2025) was a sarod player and composer known for integrating elements of Hindustani classical music with Celtic and contemporary styles. Born in Kent, England, he began his musical journey with classical guitar before turning to the sarod after exposure to Indian classical music.
He trained under Ustad Gurdev Singh and later Pandit Shekhar Borkar, developing a performance approach that combined raga-based structures with cross-cultural influences. His work included collaborations and projects such as the Celtic Ragas Band and other fusion ensembles.
Over his career, he released multiple albums and performed internationally, presenting music that often reflected themes of environment and cultural exchange. In addition to performance, his projects included initiatives aimed at raising awareness about ecological issues through music.
