Brajeswar Mukherjee

Brajeswar Mukherjee is among the most promising vocalists of the contemporary Hindustani classical music tradition. Born into a culturally rich musical family, his formal training began at the age of four under the guidance of his parents, laying a strong foundation in classical music. He further refined his understanding of raga and musical aesthetics through training with Sri Asit Roy of the Vishnupur Gharana, a school known for its disciplined and lyrical approach.

Since the late 1990s, Brajeswar Mukherjee has been a dedicated disciple of the internationally acclaimed maestro Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty, under whose mentorship his artistry has matured and gained wider recognition. His music appeals to both connoisseurs of Hindustani classical music and audiences of Bengali raga-based compositions, a reach strengthened through his regular radio programs, live performances, and published recordings.

His contributions to Indian classical music have been acknowledged with several prestigious honors, including the Dhananjay Smriti Puraskar from Calcutta University, the Shrutinandan Puraskar from the Shrutinandan Institute founded by his guru, the Gaan Vardhan award from Pune, and the Ustad Bismillah Khan Award from the Sangeet Natak Academy in 2016.

In addition to his performance career, he serves as a music tutor at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy and is a regular featured artist on All India Radio. Over the past decade, he has toured extensively across the world, performing both as a soloist and alongside eminent musicians, including his guru Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty and renowned Carnatic vocalist Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna.
