Biography
Baluji Shrivastav is an Indian-British musician and composer known for his supremacy for his expertise in Indian classical music. He is a sitar player and also performs on instruments such as the dilruba, surbahar, tabla and pakhavaj. Blind since infancy, he developed a deep musical connection early in life; after that, he studied vocal music and sitar at the University of Lucknow and then continued his training at Allahabad University, where he also studied tabla and completed a master's degree in sitar. This strong foundation in Hindustani classical music helped him build a wide-ranging and successful career.
Over the years, Baluji Shrivastav has performed around the world and worked with many well-known artists across different styles of music, including classical, rock, pop, jazz and world music. He has also recorded and collaborated on many creative projects. In 2008, he co-founded the Baluji Music Foundation to support access to music and encourage more opportunities for disabled musicians. Later in 2012, he created the Inner Orchestra—the only professional orchestra in the UK made up of blind and visually impaired musicians. His work has created new performance opportunities for talented artists.
Baluji Shrivastav’s life and music reflect creativity, collaboration and inclusion. He has dedicated his career to connecting people through sound and cultural exchange. For his services to music, he was honored with the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire).
Today, he continues to record, perform and lead projects that celebrate the power of music to bring different communities together and to show that art has no barriers.
