Biography

B. Shree Sundarkumar represents a significant voice in Carnatic percussion, bringing technical precision and contemporary relevance to the kanjira. Trained initially by his father, K.B.S. Mani, and later refined under guru Karaikudi R. Mani, he developed a style that blends traditional discipline with rhythmic versatility. Sundarkumar has appeared at prominent festivals across India and internationally, contributing to both solo and ensemble settings. His work as a guest lecturer at Adyar Music College and Kalakshetra reflects his engagement with pedagogy and the next generation of musicians. Recognized early in his career with a CCRT scholarship, he later received distinctions such as Yuva Kala Bharathi, the Asthana Vidwan title, and the Sangeet Natak Akademi’s Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar. His profile continues to grow through performances, collaborations, and educational outreach.
