Biography
Dr. Avinash Kumar is a Hindustani classical vocalist and academic based in New Delhi. A gold medalist in his master's degree, he holds an M.Phil. and a PhD from the University of Delhi and is currently serving as an assistant professor in its Department of Music.
He received his initial training from Smt. Sadhna Chatterjee and Shri Purnochandra Chatterjee were later trained under Ustad Aftab Ahmed Khan of the Rampur Sahaswan Gharana. He continues to receive guidance from Pt. Tushar Dutt and Pt. Somnath Mardur, associated with the Agra and Kirana gharanas.
An “A” graded artist of All India Radio, Dr. Kumar has been performing since 2011. His repertoire includes forms such as Khayal, Thumri, and Dadra. Alongside performance, he is engaged in academic work, research, and publications related to Hindustani classical music.
He has received recognitions, including the Tushar Pandit Memorial Gold Medal, the Prof. V. Bani Ram Medal, and the Prof. Sumati Mutatkar Award. His professional associations include collaborations with organizations such as SPIC MACAY, UNESCO, and Doordarshan.
