About
Biography
Pandit Ashoke Mukherjee belongs to the Lucknow gharana of tabla and was trained under Pandit Kishan Maharaj. His repertoire reflects the gharana’s emphasis on clarity, lyrical phrasing, and the use of traditional rela, tukra, and qaida forms. His approach integrates structured development with refined tonal control.
He has been active as both a soloist and an accompanist in Hindustani classical music. His collaborative work spans vocal and instrumental performance contexts, including concerts with Arshad Ali Khan, Samarth Nagarkar, Sandipan Samajpati, Pt. Partho Sarothy, Arindam Bhattacharyya, and Ramprapanna Bhattacharya.
In addition to performances across India, he has appeared internationally in concert venues and festivals in the United States and Europe. He is associated with the Aashish Khan School of World Music in Kolkata, where he has performed and taken part in institutional cultural events. His solo recordings include tabla presentations in Teentaal and Jhaptaal, documenting Lucknow gharana compositions in a recital format.
