About
Biography
Ashima Pyngottu has been learning and practicing Bharatanatyam for over seventeen years. Based in Switzerland, she continues her artistic journey alongside a full-time career as a medical doctor. This balance shapes her work, where discipline, focus, and long-term dedication guide both her profession and her dance.
She trains under Dr. Mathivathanie Suthaharan in Zurich and Smt. Vineeta Ravindra in Basel, working in depth on technique, repertoire, and performance. Her foundation in classical Bharatanatyam is strong, with clear attention to form, rhythm, and expression. At the same time, she remains open to new ideas and collaborative formats.
Ashima performs regularly at cultural events across Switzerland and works closely with organizations such as Swiss Natya Sabha and Swiss Bharathiya Association. Her work includes solo performances as well as collaborations that bring classical dance into dialogue with other forms. One such project is Ekam, a Kathak–Bharatanatyam duet with Anvita Pandey, where two traditions meet through rhythm and storytelling.
Beyond performing, Ashima explores Indian culture through visual research, including ideas around costume and presentation. This interest shapes how she presents classical dance in contemporary spaces.
