Arun Venkitaraman

Dr. Arun Venkitaraman is a Carnatic violinist currently based in Sweden, recognized for his performances rooted in the Lalgudi bani (style) of Carnatic violin. He began learning the violin at the age of fourteen under Shri Vijayam Ramaswamy and later received advanced training from Shri Vasanta Kannan, a respected exponent of the Lalgudi tradition. His musical approach reflects the stylistic features associated with the Lalgudi school, including lyrical phrasing and emphasis on melodic clarity.

As a performer, Arun Venkitaraman has appeared at various concerts and cultural events in Europe, presenting Carnatic classical music to diverse audiences. He has performed regularly at venues such as the Carnatic Café in Switzerland and has also been featured at the Stockholm Sangeet Festival. His collaborations with musicians including Suranjana Ghosh (tabla) and Chidambaram Narayanan (mridangam) have explored both traditional Carnatic recital formats and cross-cultural presentations such as North Meets South musical programs.

Alongside his musical activities, Dr. Arun Venkitaraman has an academic and professional career in engineering and research. He holds a PhD from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and works in the field of electrical engineering, focusing on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and signal processing. His parallel engagement in both music and technology reflects a multidisciplinary approach that combines artistic practice with scientific research.
