Biography
Arshad Ali Khan is a Hindustani classical vocalist rooted in the Kirana gharana. He comes from the family lineage of Ustad Abdul Karim Khan and Ustad Abdul Wahid Khan, who established the Kirana tradition. His formal musical training began under the guidance of his maternal uncles, Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan and Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan, who shaped his foundation in raga, voice culture, and gharana-based discipline.
At the age of nine, Arshad Ali Khan drew national attention when he performed at the Sawai Gandharva Sammelan on a special invitation from Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, marking an early milestone in his musical journey.
He has since performed at leading music festivals across India, including the Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Festival in Pune, Harballabh Sangeet Sammelan in Jalandhar, Saptak Festival, Karavalli Festival in Mangalore, Sangeet Natak Akademi’s Sangit Pratibha in Patna, Gharana Sammelan in Mumbai, Bhatkhande Sangeet Sammelan, Dover Lane Music Conference in Kolkata, Classical Music Festival in Bangalore, and Legends of India Baithak in Delhi.
Internationally, his concerts have taken him across the United States, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Singapore, and Bangladesh. He has performed at venues and festivals such as Théâtre de la Ville in Paris, Trophen Theatre in Amsterdam, Indo-Persian Festival in Marseille, Mawazine Festival in Morocco, Raag Mala in California, and the Bengal Foundation Music Conference in Bangladesh.
Arshad Ali Khan is known for his use of merukhand vistar in presentations. He serves as a music teacher at ITC Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata, and is an empanelled artist of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. His recognitions include the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar (2013), Jadu Bhatta Puraskar, Bharatiya Sansad Best Vocalist Award, Vidya Sagar Award from NCPA, and several national honours. His discography includes albums such as Moorchhana, Immortal, Sparkling Kirana, and Alaap.
