Arif Lohar

Arif Lohar, born in 1966 in Achh village, Punjab, belongs to a family deeply rooted in folk music traditions. As the son of the iconic Punjabi folk singer Alam Lohar, he was immersed in music from an early age and began performing alongside his siblings while still young. This early exposure shaped his strong command over traditional Punjabi folk forms, lyrical storytelling, and rhythmic delivery. His performances are characteristically accompanied by the chimta, a traditional Punjabi percussion instrument that has become closely associated with his musical identity.

Over the course of his career, Arif Lohar has emerged as one of the most influential folk singers of his generation. He gained widespread recognition across Pakistan and India after the release of “Jugni” in the mid-2000s, which introduced folk themes to a new generation of listeners. His album 21st Century Jugni marked a turning point by presenting Punjabi folk music in a contemporary sound framework while preserving its traditional core.

Arif Lohar has performed extensively on international stages, touring across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia.
