About
Biography
Apoorva Petkar is a multi-instrumentalist, harmonium artist, and vocalist working within the traditions of Hindustani classical and ghazal music. A disciple of Pandit Mukund Petkar, he received detailed training in harmonium technique, raga understanding, and classical composition. This grounding informs both his accompaniment work and his independent musical presentations.
As a harmonium accompanist, Apoorva Petkar is valued for attentive support to vocalists, sensitivity to lyrical content, and balanced melodic phrasing. Alongside accompaniment, he is also active as a vocalist. His stage name, Nusrat Apoorv, reflects his interest in poetry-driven forms such as ghazal and his engagement with the emotive aspects of musical interpretation.
Apoorva Petkar curates and leads Ghazal Sarai, a concert series dedicated to ghazal repertoire, where he presents works associated with major ghazal exponents while focusing on text and mood. He is also a core member of the production O Gaanewali, a thematic presentation highlighting the contributions of women artists to thumri, dadra, and ghazal traditions, where he provides harmonium accompaniment.
His collaborations include cross-genre projects, such as working with guitarist Sanjay Divecha, demonstrating adaptability beyond strictly classical formats. Through performance and curation, Apoorva Petkar contributes to the continued presentation of Hindustani and ghazal music in contemporary concert contexts.
