Biography
Dr. Aparajita Lahiri’s musical formation reflects a structured progression through family guidance, formal tutelage, and institutional training. She was introduced to vocal music by her mother, Smt. Shreemoti Lahiri, and later trained under Smt. Renuka Sen, a disciple of Pandit Bhishmadev Chattopadhyay. In 2009, she entered the ITC Sangeet Research Academy in Kolkata as a research scholar, where she underwent intensive training. Her principal mentorship under Vidushi Girija Devi shaped her approach to the Banaras Gharana, with focused work in khayal and semi-classical forms including thumri, dadra, tappa, and bhajan. She has also received instruction in khayal from Omkar Dadarkar.
In performance, she has appeared at established Indian classical music platforms and has accompanied Girija Devi at major events in India and abroad, including the Dover Lane Music Conference and the Malhar Festival. Her work extends beyond traditional concert settings through recorded and digital presentations, where she has interpreted selected Hindi film compositions. Public recognition of her work includes the National Scholarship awarded in 2008 and the Patliputra Kala Ratna Samman.
