Biography
Anuradha Vikranth is a renowned Bharatanatyam and Bharatanrityam danseuse, performer, choreographer, pedagogue, and researcher. Based in Bengaluru, she is recognized for her ability to balance classical integrity with thoughtful innovation. Her initial training in Bharatanatyam was under Guru Smt. Nirupama Rajendra and Guru Smt. Narmada, followed by advanced and intensive training under Padma Bhushan Guru Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam, focusing on the karanas and movement vocabulary of the Natyashastra.
Academically inclined, Anuradha Vikranth is a commerce graduate from Mount Carmel College, Bengaluru, and holds a master’s degree in Bharatanatyam from SASTRA University, Tamil Nadu. She continues her academic research in dance, reinforcing the scholarly dimension of her artistic work. She is an ‘’A”-graded artist of Doordarshan and serves on the Academic Council of the Karnataka State Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University. She is also a visiting faculty member in performing arts at the Sri Sathya Sai University of Human Excellence and the secretary of the World Dance Alliance–Karnataka Chapter.
In 2001, she founded Drishti Art Centre in Sahakarnagar, Bengaluru, to impart structured and holistic training in Bharatanatyam. The institution has trained numerous students in India and abroad through both in-person and online programs. The Drishti Art Foundation, associated with the center, received the National Education Excellence Award (2019) as the Best Classical Dance Training Institute. A key initiative of the center, Marga Drishti, focuses on teaching the classical marga tradition as reconstructed from the Natyashastra.
Anuradha Vikranth is also the driving force behind the Drishti National Dance Festival, a nationally recognized platform that brings together leading artists from across India and abroad. As a performer and choreographer, she has presented major productions and large-scale works, including Aikyam, Jayati-Mahati, Antardhwani, Panchajanya, and Shakti. She has performed at prominent festivals and cultural venues in India, the USA, Canada, the UK, and the UAE.
She is among the few Bharatanatyam dancers trained in Chitra Nritya, creating visual imagery through dance using colored powder, notably in works such as Mayura Sandesha and Simhanandini. Her contributions have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Nadaprabhu Kempe Gowda State Award, Kala Arati Ratna, Karnataka Ratna Samman, and several national and international honors. Through performance, education, and institution-building, Anuradha Vikranth continues to make a sustained contribution to Indian classical dance.
