Anuj Mishra belongs to a celebrated traditional family of musicians associated with the historic Varanasi gharana, one of the most influential lineages in Hindustani classical music. He is the thirteenth-generation bearer of this musical heritage, reflecting an unbroken continuity of artistic knowledge and practice within his family. His musical ancestry includes his forefather, the late Shri Shiv Kishore Mishra, a renowned sarangi player who contributed significantly to the musical culture of Varanasi.
