Biography

Anant Joshi was born on 12 August 1976 and began his formal musical training at the age of ten under the guidance of his father, Pandit Achyut Joshi. His foundational learning was further strengthened through advanced mentorship from Pandit Vishwanath Kanhere, under whose guidance he developed artistic maturity and performance excellence. Alongside his musical training, he completed his graduation in economics from the University of Mumbai. He later achieved the prestigious Sangeet Alankar qualification in harmonium from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalay Mandal, Miraj.

He entered the professional music circuit at an early stage, securing top rankings in numerous instrumental competitions across Mumbai and Maharashtra, as well as inter-collegiate competitions of the University of Mumbai during 1995 and 1996. He also served as the contingent leader of the Mumbai University cultural group at the National Youth Festival, where the team won the national trophy in 1995–96. His artistic achievements were formally recognized when he was awarded a Fellowship by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, as an Outstanding Artist for the year 2011–2012.

Anant Joshi is a B-High graded artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan and has presented notable solo harmonium performances in major cultural centers, including Mumbai, Nashik, Pune, Belgaum, Akola, Nagpur, Sangli, and Murud-Janjira. He has also participated in jugalbandis with instruments such as flute, sitar, and violin and has been invited to perform at Harmonium Sammelans held in Mumbai, Belgaum, and Ratnagiri. As an accompanist, he has shared the stage with several eminent vocalists and instrumentalists of Indian classical music, both in India and internationally.

His international engagements include accompanying Pandit Prabhakar Karekar in the United States, Shruti Sadolikar in Switzerland, and Marina Aalam in Nepal. He has also served as a harmonium accompanist for classical dance workshops conducted by Pandit Birju Maharaj. In addition to live performance, he has appeared on leading television channels and worked extensively as a music arranger, including full-season assignments for Zee Marathi’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. As a composer, he has released several CDs and VCDs across devotional and light-classical genres, collaborating with well-known singers such as Vaishali Samant, Mrudula Dadhe-Joshi, and Ravindra Sathe.
