About
Biography
Amit Chaubey’s association with the tabla began at the age of seven, when he was initiated into formal training in his hometown of Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. He was groomed under the close and methodical guidance of Pt. Karodilal Bhatt, who played a formative role in shaping his foundational understanding of rhythm, technique, and practice discipline. These early years were marked by sustained riyaaz and a focused engagement with the grammar of tabla.
As his training progressed, Amit moved towards advanced instruction under globally respected tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain, where he gained exposure to a broader rhythmic vocabulary and refined performance sensibilities. He also continues to learn from Pandit Yogesh Samsi, further strengthening his command over tonal precision and structural clarity.
Amit brings to his music a perceptive and responsive rhythmic mind, supported by a rich tonal quality developed through persistent dedication. An astute tabla player, he combines the rigor of classical tradition with an informed understanding of modern percussion techniques, allowing his playing to remain rooted yet adaptive within contemporary musical contexts.
