Akkarai S Sornalatha

Akkarai S Sornalatha is a highly respected Carnatic violinist, vocalist, and composer, known for her sweet tone, refined fingering, and deep musical sensitivity. Born into the famed Akkarai family, she was immersed in music from childhood, guided by her grandfather Suchindram Shri S P Sivasubramaniam and grandmother Smt R Sornambal’s legacy, and trained under her father and guru, Akkarai Shri S Swamynathan.

Though younger than her sister Subhalakshmi, Sornalatha absorbed musical knowledge early, showing remarkable skill as both an accompanist and soloist. Her training included vocal lessons from Shri O V Subramaniam and Smt Padam Natesan, adding a strong melodic foundation to her violin playing.

She has performed widely in India and abroad, including high-profile events such as the 2013 concert for the Emperor and Empress of Japan. An A-Grade artist of All India Radio and a gold-medal MA graduate from the University of Madras, Sornalatha is also a composer, writing in several Indian languages. Her playing is admired for its clarity, elegance, and emotional depth.
