About

Adnan Khan, a sitarist from the Kirana Gharana, blends emotional depth and technical precision. Trained by his father Ustad Saeed Khan, he performs classical ragas and light classical music.

Biography

Adnan Khan is a prominent sitar player in the Hindustani classical tradition. He is a disciple of his father, the late Ustad Saeed Khan of the Kirana Gharana, and carries forward a lineage rooted in melodic clarity, sensitivity, and rigour. His playing is marked by emotive phrasing combined with strong technical control, allowing him to explore both depth and complexity within a raga.

He has performed widely across India and on international platforms, including prestigious forums such as Bazm-e-Khas. Among the ragas most closely associated with his repertoire are Raag Yaman and Yaman Kalyan, often noted for their soulful and expansive treatment. He is also known for his command over demanding ragas such as Raag Nand and Raag Chhayanat, where his intricate taan work and structural clarity stand out.

Beyond pure classical performance, Adnan Khan frequently presents light classical forms such as Dhun and Thumri, including pieces in Raag Mishra Gara, demonstrating versatility and audience connection.

In concert, he regularly collaborates with leading accompanists, including tabla artists Adil Khan—heard with him in ragas such as Nat Kamod and Yaman—and Zuheb Ahmed Khan, with whom he has performed Raag Jaunpuri. These partnerships add rhythmic depth and balance to his recitals.
