Aditya Khandwe

Aditya Khandwe is an Indian Hindustani classical vocalist whose training reflects a strong grounding in traditional gharana-based music. Born into a musical family, he was introduced to classical music by his mother and first guru, Vidya Khandwe, a performing vocalist. This early exposure shaped his foundation in raga and voice culture.

From the age of thirteen, he came under the guidance of Pandit Ratnakar Pai for training in Jaipur gayaki. He later received instruction in the Gwalior style from Pandit Yeshwantbua Joshi. His advanced training in the Jaipur-Atrauli repertoire was further strengthened under Dhondutai Kulkarni, one of the important exponents of that tradition. He also studied Banaras-style thumri with Pandit Rajabhau Kogje. He currently continues advanced taalim under Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar.

His music is associated primarily with the Jaipur–Atrauli gharana, known for complex raga structures and rare ragas, while his exposure to Gwalior and Agra approaches adds breadth to his presentation. His singing is often noted for disciplined layakari and clarity in raga development.

Aditya Khandwe has received several recognitions. These include the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar from Sangeet Natak Akademi and the Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur Award from the Government of Karnataka. He has also been awarded titles such as Shanmukha Sangeet Shiromani and Surmani. He holds an ‘A’ grade from All India Radio and Doordarshan.

Academically, he completed postgraduate studies in music from the University of Mumbai, where he secured a gold medal for ranking first. Alongside performing, he is active in teaching. He offers structured courses in Hindustani vocal music and khayal gayaki through online platforms such as iPassion.

His performance career includes appearances at curated music events and festivals, including programs hosted by G5A Foundation for Contemporary Culture. His recorded output includes releases such as Studio Series 1, featuring bandishes like “Bana Rain Jaga” and “Maai Piya Ke.”
