Biography

Abhisek Lahiri represents a generation of Indian classical musicians who combine rigorous traditional training with international reach. His lineage stems primarily from the Maihar gharana while integrating elements from the Shahjahanpur and Senia Bangash (Gwalior) approaches to the sarod. Guided by his father, Pandit Alok Lahiri, he developed a playing style marked by a lyrical tonal quality, layakari, and a repertoire that spans both classical and semi-classical forms.

His career gained momentum from a young age, following recognition at the Saath-Saath Festival in Mumbai and his debut performances in Europe. Lahiri became one of the earliest sarod musicians to perform at the European Parliament in France, and his concert tours have since included venues such as Théâtre de la Ville in Paris, the Sacred Music Festival in Strasbourg, the Raag-Mala Music Society in Canada, and India Festivals in Japan. He has also served as a cultural delegate for the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, representing India in Morocco and Cyprus.

Lahiri’s discography includes albums that received GiMA Award nominations—notably Sparkling Sarod and Mood of Puriya Kalyan—placing him alongside senior Indian classical music figures in the industry. Outside the traditional concert format, he contributes to collaborative projects such as the IONAH trio and the EMME collective, reflecting his intent to expand the sarod’s presence in cross-cultural music.

Widely featured in national and international media and honored with awards, including the President's Award from All India Radio, Abhisek Lahiri continues to be an active and evolving voice in the global presentation of Hindustani classical music.
