Abbos Kosimov

Abbos Kosimov is a renowned percussionist from Tashkent, Uzbekistan, celebrated for his exceptional mastery of the doyra, a traditional Uzbek frame drum. Born into a musical family, Abbos was inspired from a young age, eventually becoming a disciple of the esteemed doyra artist Tuychi Inogomov. His dedication to the craft has earned him significant achievements, including winning the prestigious Competition of Percussion Instruments of Central Asia and Kazakhstan. In 1994, Kosimov founded his own doyra school, demonstrating his commitment to preserving and promoting this traditional art form. Four years later, he established the ensemble “Abbos,” which quickly gained recognition for its vibrant performances and innovative interpretations of traditional Uzbek music. Kosimov's talent has taken him around the world, where he has collaborated with notable musicians such as the legendary Zakir Hussain and Randy Gloss’s percussion group, Hand’s OnSemble. His impressive resume even includes recording sessions with the iconic Stevie Wonder, showcasing his versatility and appeal across different musical genres. Through his performances and teaching, Abbos Kosimov continues to share the rich traditions of Uzbek music while also pushing their boundaries, captivating audiences worldwide with his dynamic style and rhythmic brilliance.
